Telecoms Operators

Telecoms service providers have worked hard in recent years to drive down costs and improve operational performance. Service providers and network operators will continue to pursue operational improvements on their current business, to deliver the value that shareholders demand.

During this period of cost-reduction and consolidation, the world has not stood still. We have seen the introduction and adoption of broadband access technologies (DSL, 3G,Wi-Fi) and advent of scalable, secure, multimedia Internet Protocol (IP) networking - keystones of convergence. This represents both a threat and an opportunity for established telecoms companies who must reconcile their efforts to meet shareholder expectations, with the need to identify and deliver innovation.

As traditional sector boundaries have blurred, the traditional telecoms value chain has changed and so have the traditional supplier relationships within this chain. Companies must support partners in new ways, sharing risks and rewards, and accepting that, inevitably, most partners will also be competitors.

The old way of delivering innovation - through massive dedicated investment in new systems, people and processes to support each individual initiative through its lifecycle - is not sustainable and will not be supported by shareholders.

In embracing convergence, it is not sufficient for companies to be innovative in what they do, they must also transform how they innovate; internally and with others.

STL works with many of the fixed and mobile operators on these issues.
