Media OrganisationsMedia provision companies have been challenged by the changes within their industry brought about by advanced technology, such as inexpensive input, layout and printing devices and software, or professional level publishing to websites, as well as increasingly, the number and types of potential clients contacting them regarding media provision to the mass market. The new clients are coming from fields widely separated from the traditional market places of the content license owners, (namely telecoms service providers, advanced handset device manufacturers and operators), they are also very used to different pricing models based on content usage, rather than the license subscription model for single or semi irregular usage currently in effect with most television and print media clients today. In the case of gaming, music or similar content, such media companies are facing widespread requirements to allow their media to be distributed online on a pay per use basis, as opposed to the traditional price per unit for purchase, currently used in their distribution models. To face the future in better shape, several many Media companies are diversifying into solutions and services that provide better margins and a stable revenue stream in a subscription, pay per use, or license model. However, given the cultural and organisational issues, the move from products under license to primarily television or print media companies, or purchased/distributed products, to solutions/services for telecoms service providers and operators, will be a challenge for most. The next few years are crucial. STL works with many of the leading Media companies on these issues. Further information |
