Simon Torrance
CEO & Founder

Simon leads STL Partners and coordinates the activities of the Telco 2.0 and Digital Entertainment 2.0 Initiatives as well as the ‘New Digital Economics’ Executive Brainstorm series. Simon has over 20 years’ experience in innovation and market growth strategy. He is an advisor to many companies in the global Telecoms, Media and Technology sector, facilitates the New Digital Economics events and is a regular speaker at major industry events such as Mobile World Congress and ITU Telecom. Simon was recently appointed to the World Economic Forum’s Global ICT Agenda Council. Before setting up STL Partners, he worked for various WPP and Omnicom companies and has a Masters Degree from Cambridge University.

 

Phil Laidler
Consulting Director

20 years experience in strategy, marketing and corporate development; 12 years in TMT. Phil has worked for fixed and wireless operators both as a senior executive and consultant. His focus is on strategic planning, corporate development and strategic marketing. He held senior management roles for 7 years at MCI International including strategic development, new product development and business transformation. Additional consulting experience with Braxton Associates, Cambridge Strategic Management Group and DDV-Logica. Phil speaks fluent Italian and French. He has an MSc from the London School of Economics and an MA from Cambridge University.

 

Tom Davies
Events Director

Tom is responsible for STL Partners’ public, private and virtual events. He has over 12 years’ events experience in the Telecoms, Media and Technology sectors. Prior to joining STL, Tom was Head of Production at IIR Telecoms where he was responsible for over 100 events on topics including, IPTV and broadband, mobile content and TV, marketing strategies, fixed and mobile networks and event director for the TETRA World Congress. Other experience includes production on music videos, commercials, short films, corporate videos and documentaries. BA in Politics and Modern History from Manchester University.

 

Zacchary Falconer-Barfield
Events Director

Zach has recently joined the STL team as a Director of Events. He brings his entrepreneurial energy to the company, having 20 years business experience and established, ran or been involved with dozens of companies, everything from Security to Film Production. He has worked with clients such as 20th Century Fox to City University. He has also been involved in Event Management and Speaker Promotion, he launched Tech Entrepreneurs Week in London. He has successfully worked at the forefront of the Digital Entertainment Media Revolution as CEO of Stuffed Animals Media. He has an MBA from Cass Business School.

 

Dan Collins
Business Development & Key Account Manager

Dan is responsible for global business development of events and strategic marketing services among key industry partners across communications, media and entertainment markets.  He has worked in a commercial role on leading telco and technology events for the past 10 years.  Dan’s past events include IIR Telecom’s Tetra World Congress, WDM, Carrier Ethernet, Billing Systems; and the Guardian’s Changing Media Summit, Create in China, Oxford Media Convention and Activate Summit.  He has a BA (Hons) in Business Management from Southampton Solent University.

 

Meena Sagoo
Business Development & Key Account Manager

Meena is responsible for managing and developing client relationships for Telco 2.0. Meena has worked in sales and marketing for over 10 years. She has held customer-focused roles at major events, publishing and consulting firms including Orange, Emap, IIR and McDonald Butler Associates. Meena holds a BA (Hons) in Fashion, Design & Technology.

 

Alexander Harrowell
Senior Analyst

Key Telco 2.0 blogger and co-author of the research on Future Broadband Business Models, 2-Sided Business Model, and Voice & Messaging 2.0. Alex used to write for leading industry magazine Mobile Communications International, where he specialised in network infrastructure and related issues. He's been blogging independently since 2003, a passion which saw him short-listed for UK newspaper The Guardian's Political Blog of the Year award in 2004. His specialist subjects include MVNOs, IMS, SDP, core networks, and UMTS-TDD, as well as telecoms policy and economics.

 

Luke Hill
New Digital Economics Events Executive

Luke joined STL Partners in August 2011 as part of the newly expanded New Digital Economics Executive Sales team. Luke’s key responsibilities include developing the New Digital Economics brand, managing client relationships and exploring new growth opportunities. Luke graduated in September 2009 from the University of Plymouth with a BA (Hons) degree in History with Politics. Following this he worked for Lloyds TSB Group Union in a marketing and sales role before joining STL Partners. Looking forward, Luke is keen to develop new client relationships and continue expanding the Telco 2.0 brand across the telecom, media and technology sectors.

Keith McMahon
Senior Analyst

Keith writes about the telecom scene and consults for Telco 2.0 following a distinguished solo blogging career at TeleBusillis. A co-author of the research on Future Broadband Business Models, 2-Sided Business Model, and Voice & Messaging 2.0. Keith previously held senior technology operations and strategy positions in the Telecoms industry around the world working for companies such as Cable & Wireless, America Movil, Wiltel & Accenture.

 

Chris Barraclough
Managing Director and Chief Strategist

MD and consulting lead for STL and key report author. 20 years experience in strategy, marketing and finance; 12 years in TMT. During this time he has worked extensively in both the wired and wireless sectors, including stints as Marketing Director at MCI WorldCom UK and Orange Group. He specialises in strategic analysis and proposition development and has developed strategies for new products, services and businesses for several operators and vendor companies in the UK and across EMEA and North America. Additional consulting experience with Bain, Gemini Consulting, Cambrian, Oxford Strategic Marketing, Burlington. MA, Oxford University.

 

Andrew Collinson
Research Director

Andrew leads and manages STL Partners' research business which underpins the Telco 2.0 and Digital Entertainment Initiatives and the 'New Digital Economics' Executive Brainstorm series. 20+ years in telecoms spanning a wide range of senior operational and strategic marketing roles in mobile, fixed line, VOIP, and computing and internet services, specialising the creation and growth of useful and valuable new services and businesses. BSc in Medical Physics at Exeter and MBA from Warwick University.

 

Tim Cook
Director of Sales

Tim has global responsibility for STL's sales initiatives, customer relationships, and sales team. He has 16 years experience leading commercial programmes across the telecoms, media, and technology sectors earned in roles in New York, Sydney, and London.

 

Nicola Pinkney
Business Development & Key Account Manager

Nicola is responsible for business development across STL Partners’ portfolio of global events, research and strategic marketing/consulting services.  Her role involves building and managing relationships across the Telco 2.0 community of service providers and key industry partners.  With over 15 years’ experience in events, digital and print media, Nicola is focused on ensuring clients achieve their strategic marketing objectives and get access to the right knowledge and expertise from the Telco 2.0 team to help them with their strategic challenges. BA Politics, University of Nottingham.

 

Grainne Gleeson
Finance & Administration Manager

GrĂ¡inne has been with STL Partners since 2005 and is primarily responsible for day-to-day accounting and financial reporting of the business. She also has a secondary role of HR Manager. Prior to joining STL Partners, GrĂ¡inne worked in a number of management roles in human resources for some of the UK's major retail groups for over 15 years. MA Trinity College Dublin



Miriam Dennis
Events Manager

Miriam joined the team in August 2011 as the events manager for STL’s New Digital Economics Executive Brainstorms and private events. Key responsibilities include event logistics, delegate management, marketing campaigns and partnerships. With more than 3 years experience in B2B events management, Miriam is responsible for ensuring STL’s high standards and expectations are consistently met for clients. BA (Hons) Geography, University of Leeds.

 

Alastair Doig
New Digital Economics Events Manager

Alastair is the sales manager for the newly expanded delegate sales team. The team’s focus is delivering targeted audiences to the events, ensuring the optimal mix of participants. His role focuses on growing the newly rebranded New Digital Economic Executive Brainstorm series, as well as securing key attendees to targeted private events run on behalf of our clients. He has two years’ experience in sponsorship and delegate sales for the pharmaceutical and property sectors.



John Raley
New Digital Economics Events Executive

John joined STL Partners in August 2011 after graduating as an MA (English and Philosophy) MSc (Film Studies) from Edinburgh University. Forming part of the newly expanded New Digital Economics Executive Sales team, John’s key responsibilities include promoting the Executive Brainstorm Event series, developing new client relationships and expanding the Telco 2.0 brand across the telecom, media and technology sectors.

Dean Bubley
Disruptive Technologies and Market Forces Specialist

An analyst with over 16 years' experience, Dean primarily specialises in wireless, mobile, and telecoms fields. His present focus is on wireless technology, especially the evolution of mobile device architecture & software, fixed-mobile convergence, shifts in service provider value chains, enterprise mobility, in-building technologies, mobile broadband, and the integration of cellular and WLAN. Dean is the Founder of Disruptive Analysis, an independent technology industry analyst and consulting firm, and was formerly an equity analyst, covering communications and software stocks. Prior to that, he had spent eight years at UK research firm Datamonitor, where he co-founded the company's Technology business unit, directly managed the Internet & Networking competency area and custom consulting operations, and held the titles of Chief Analyst and Director of Consulting. BSc in Physics from Oxford University.
